Johnny Thunders, Patterns and Textures, and a Picture of Me.

Johnny Thunders -- I love the two different colours of eyeshadow, and the intentionally(?) -disheveled state of it. That black zippered top is fabulous, too: a basic that's been elevated with just a few extra zippers. Edgy, but in an understated way.

Johnny Thunders, again -- Ignoring the duck face, everything (else) about this is astounding, in part because everything is either white, black, or gold. Golden yellow, if you count the guitar. The interplay of textures--flowing, silk(?) shirt, weightier but proportional trousers, lace neckpiece, leather guitar strap, gold adornments on said strap, gold heavy chain--creates an outfit that's neither overly stark nor overly busy. The former might have occurred because there are only three different colours, and the latter because there's a lot going on, regardless. The dual-patterned shirt; chain; black and white lace at the neck; suspenders; and guitar strap could easily become overwhelming in the wrong context. Also, it bears mention that the subtle stripes behind the (wonderfully sized) polka dots are brilliant. The picture's not quite high enough quality to tell, but I think the stripes are also a different material. Anyway, these two pictures are why Johnny Thunders is my style icon.

And while I muster up the courage to move past the spider that guards my camera, here's a picture taken of me at 2am, in an IHOP, after a concert*. My makeups gone a bit messy and I look a little like a zombie/junkie, but I do rather like the detail of the shirt--ruffles and stripes! The polka dot thing around my neck is actually a collar that sorta drooped as the night went on. Now, when I wear collars, I stiffen them with starch or hairspray.** Anyway, I also like the black/white striped tie, and the fact that I keep to only three colours here--black, white, and a pale pink in the polka dots. ***

*Brian Setzer at the Hollywood Bowl. For anyone that goes to that particular venue: if you wear a crisp white shirt and black pants, you can pretend you're an employee and make your way to much better seats (fairly) unnoticed. :D

**I'll post a DIY here tomorrow, or else a link to a good DIY or two. Collars aren't really at the height of trendiness anymore, but I think they can be a good finishing touch to an outfit.

***Well, if you count the subtle purple of my hair, that's a fourth colour. D:
